Can I have the coffee ground?

We strongly encourage you to grind your own coffee. You will get much more out of the coffees if you DIY than getting us to grind it for you. For an inexpensive grinder, you can check out the Timemore USB Electric grinder from our webshop.

Are your coffees Fairtrade Certified?

We source coffees based on seasonality, traceability and taste. Fairtrade certifications are not prerequisites for us. We are already buying most of our coffees direct and we pay significantly higher than Fairtrade prices for our coffees. Since the start of our roasting journey, we have been buying most of our coffees directly from farms in Colombia, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua & Guatemala. We aspire to develop long-term relationships with coffee farmers who can provide quality assurance so that we have a sustainable supply of good quality green coffee. When we work with importers, we only work with those who share the same beliefs as us in terms of quality and prices that we pay for our coffees since 2023.

How should I store my coffee?

We suggest to keep the coffee in the packaging that it comes in, rolled up tightly and store in an air-tight container. Keep the container in a cool, dry place, away from the sunlight. Do not keep the coffee in the refrigerator/freezer. Due to the humidity in the local climate, condensation occurs when you take the bag in/out of the refrigerator/freezer. Moisture does no good to the coffees until you start brewing it. Also, coffee is porous and will absorb the flavours around it. Surely you do not want your coffee to smell fishy?

How long will my coffee last?

We encourage you to use your coffee within one month after opening the bag to get the best flavours from it. The better the storage conditions, the better the flavours hold but we do recommend you to buy in small quantities to avoid coffees from becoming stale if your consumption pattern results in one bag lasting you beyond 1 month. We find that well roasted and well-stored coffee is at its best between 7 days to 1 month after roasting.

What are the recommended ways to brew the coffee myself?

There are numerous ways to make coffee and that’s the fun part. Experiment to find a way that you like. A couple of general pointers to help you get started:

1. Use filtered water, not mineral water. Water makes up 95-98% of the cup of coffee, so don’t underestimate the importance of water quality. Soft water is recommended for brewing and we measure the water that we use to brew in the shop to be around 80-90ppm.In Singapore, you can fill up your kettle the night before boiling the water to allow for the chlorine to escape before using.

2. Try using water that is between 92-95°C or just off the boil for a minute or so if you do not have a thermometer handy.

3. We feel that this temperature range typically helps to extract the flavours from the coffee. For Aeropress, you can try with a lower temperature around 80-90°C.

4. Grind coffee right before brewing.

5. Start with a brew ratio of 60-70g of coffee for every 1 litre of water and then adjust the ratio according to your taste and age of beans. (It’s wise to invest in a weighing scale)

6. Grind size makes one of the biggest impact to your cup after water, so try adjusting the grind size to achieve the best taste results for your enjoyment.

How does the coffee subscription work?

The coffees are roasted on the first Tuesday of every month unless otherwise communicated through our social medias. To ensure you’ll receive the coffees for the next month, you’ll have to sign up by 28th of the current month. For example, if you would like to start receiving your coffee subscription in December, then you will need to sign up by 28 Nov. The monthly subscription charges will be billed to your credit card automatically on the day of your purchase unless such day is not applicable for that month. For example, if you start your coffee subscription on 31 January, the next billing will be 28 February.

What do I get with my filter subscription?

Each month we will roast a filter coffee that might be an exclusive micro-lot, a new coffee that has not been released on our webshop or we might choose one of our favourite coffees from the current lineup to send out to subscribers, making sure that what you receive will be something different every time. You can choose to order 1, 2, 3 or even 4 bags per month. For subscribers choosing to subscribe to our 2, 3 or 4 bags option, you will receive that month’s subscription coffee, as well as another 1/2/3 different coffee that we will include from the range of filter coffees available at that point in time. Each bag can range from 150g to 200g depending on the coffee that we have curated for that month.

How much does it cost?

Singapore: $23.80/$43.80/$63.80/$83.80 (1 bag/2 bags/3 bags/4 bags) (Local shipping with tracking)
Rest of World: $20/$40/$60/$80 + international shipping (1 bag/2 bags/3 bags/4 bags)

Is there a binding period?

There is no binding period, you may cancel your subscription at any time you wish under 'My Account' settings.

How often will I receive my coffee?

We send out the subscription coffees on the first Wednesday of every month. If the first Wednesday of the month falls on a public holiday, we will ship out the coffees on the next working day.

How long does it take for coffee to reach me?

The estimated shipping time for local addresses is 1 to 3 business days by courier. For overseas shipping, it depends on the shipping service provider. We generally use DHL Express and Singapore Post for certain countries. The shipping time is out of our control once we ship out the parcels. You will be able to track the package with the tracking reference provided.

Can I change the details of my order?

In order to change the subscription shipping address or quantity, you must cancel the subscription and re-subscribe using different shipping details and select the quantity to subscribe.

Can I choose espresso coffees for the coffee subscription?

Unfortunately, we are only offering filter coffees for the subscription program now but our webshop has 1kg bag option for the espresso coffees which are 15% off the usual retail price.

Can I pause/skip a renewal?

If you like to pause/skip, please drop us an email to hello@nyloncoffee.sg before 28th of the month so that we can make the change on our end.
